About me
Colleen Smereka has built a career supporting post-secondary students and is currently working as the Accessibility Coordinator at Lakeland College Vermilion Campus. Her passion for assisting students with disabilities stems from her own lived experiences and understanding of the challenges they face. After being diagnosed with a learning disability at 22, she was finally able to pursue her dream of going to university. Colleen graduated from St. Francis Xavier University with an honors degree in Sociology. After gaining experience in the workforce, she returned to complete a Bachelor of Education at St. Mary’s University in Calgary. Driven by her love for learning and commitment to equity, she is working on her Master of Education in Inclusive Education with a focus on Social Justice and Equity. Colleen has spent countless hours volunteering to advance the rights of people with disabilities.
